Fun And Safety Poolside
If you own your own swimming pool you’ll already know how important it is to keep it safe and clean. If your kids get upset finding dead frogs or hedgehogs in there think how much worse it’ll be if it’s the family dog! Pool covers will not only keep your water a little warmer over night but they’ll save the peripatetic fauna if they fall into your pool while they’re looking to slake their thirst. They also provide protection from dirt, grit, litter, leaves, in fact any form of airborne rubbish which could otherwise end up getting into your water during the night or on days when you’re not using your pool. They not only keep your pool cleaner but save you money too as you don’t need to replace your swimming pool filters so frequently or run it so often, depending on which type of filtration system you possess. They also save you money on swimming pool heaters as a blanket over your pool at night prevents radiant heat loss and heat loss by evaporation too.
Of course safety is always going to be at the forefront of your mind if you have a swimming pool and children, if you have a pool cover then it must be drilled into your kids that no matter how strong a swimmer they might be, they must never enter the swimming pool area without adult supervision and never swim with the pool cover anything less than fully retracted. It might seem harmless to them if the pools mostly uncovered yet if they try to surface under the cover, become disoriented or panic then disaster may strike notwithstanding that there might be open water within arms’ reach.
I’ve seen adults try to walk on them, they are made of heavy duty materials so tend not to become damaged but this activity is dangerous too. I have seen adults swim under them, showing off and getting into difficulties; you may break the surface of the water but suction makes the cover cling to the swimmers head which makes it impossible to get air. We got them out of the water alive but they never did anything so stupid again.
