Pool Equipment - Choosing an Automatic Swimming Pool Cleaner

Discuss - If possible find a broker with experience in home improvement loans and swimming pool financing. A bank equity loan is not the same as a this type of loan and will almost certainly cost you more.

An automatic swimming pool cleaner is absolutely the best piece of swimming pool equipment a pool owner can invest in. Manually cleaning a swimming pool is very time consuming and few pool owners enjoy this tedious task. An automatic swimming pool cleaner allows you to spend less time maintaining your swimming pool, and more time relaxing and enjoying your pool! There is a wide selection of automatic pool cleaners available for any budget, and every size In-Ground or Above-Ground swimming pool. There are three different types of automatic pool cleaners for In Ground pools and Above Ground pools, and they are classified by the way they collect debris and move around the pool. “Suction Side” automatic pool cleaners are connected to your pool skimmer and “Pressure Side” automatic pool cleaners connect to a return line fitting of your pool. “Robotic” pool cleaners work independently from your pool filtration system, and are powered by electricity.

Suction Side automatic pool cleaners use the suction power created by your filtration system to propel a pool cleaner around your swimming pool, and pick up debris from the pool floor. Suction side automatic pool cleaners are connected to the skimmer of the pool, and dirt and debris collected from the pool is deposited directly into your filtration system. Suction side automatic pool cleaners are very easy to connect to your swimming pool and to use. These pool cleaners may have an advantage over pressure side pool cleaners, because very little or no adjustments or additional parts are typically needed to adapt a suction side pool cleaner to your swimming pool. Examples of popular suction side automatic pool cleaners are the Hayward Pool Vac or Kreepy Krauly.

Discuss - The backwash discharge from an Copper Ionization treated pool is safe for use on lawns and in gardens since it does not contain any salt or sodium. Backwash from pools treated with salt water systems can kill plant life, sterilize soil preventing plant growth and is prohibited in many municipalities in the United States and Australia (where salt water systems were invented).

Pressure Side automatic pool cleaners connect to the return line fitting in the wall of your swimming pool. Pressure side automatic pool cleaners use a powerful jet of water to move around your swimming pool, and a jet of water is used to draw debris up from the pool surface into a special filter bag connected to the pool cleaner. Pressure side pool cleaners may have an advantage over suction side cleaners because they are typically more powerful and can climb the walls of an inground swimming pool. Because pressure side automatic pool cleaners are connected to the return line fitting of the swimming pool, the pool skimmer is left open to draw dirty water and debris from the surface of the pool. These pool cleaners act as a roving return line, and help eliminate “dead spots” in the swimming pool which are not reached by the circulating action of the main filter system. These pool cleaners deposit debris into a special filter bag instead of inside your pool filter system. Some pressure side pool cleaners feature their own “booster pump”, which works independently from your main pool filter system to create the extra water pressure needed for these powerful cleaners. Examples of popular pressure side automatic pool cleaners are most Polaris and most Letro brand pool cleaners.

Discuss - Metallic parts in your pool will dissolve (walls, floor, handrails, ladders, light fixtures, and equipment). This could even lead to discolored water and stains on the pool walls and floor.

Robotic automatic pool cleaners feature a built in filtration system, and operate independently from your main pool filter system. No cumbersome hoses or tedious adjustments are required. These self-contained automatic pool cleaners use on board electric motors to move around your pool and create the suction necessary to pick up debris from the pool surface. As these robotic pool cleaners move about cleaning the pool surface, they constantly circulate and filter your swimming pool water. A robotic pool cleaner will pick up debris from the pool floor, and can also climb the walls and steps of an inground swimming pool. These pool cleaners are designed to scrub the water line of the swimming pool, and regular use of a robotic swimming pool cleaner will eliminate the water line stain found on most outdoor pools.

Discuss - Alkaline powder. Although chlorine in your pool will kill off germs, it will also raise the level of acid in your water.

Robotic pool cleaners save a great deal of money in operating costs, because these pool cleaners do not require your pool pump and filtration system to be running for the pool cleaner to work. This also means you do not have to clean your filtration system after each use, using more electricity and losing chemically treated water through the filter backwash cycle. Robotic pool cleaners are available in many sizes and models designed for average size above ground swimming pools, up to the largest commercial facilities and water parks. Many robotic pool cleaners feature a hand held remote control, giving the pool owner complete control over the movements of the pool cleaner. This allows very quick and easy spot cleaning. The most common robotic swimming pool cleaner on the market today is the Aquabot pool cleaner.

Enjoy Your Clean Sparkly Swimming Pool All Year Round

Discuss - Since salt water pool systems produce chlorine, the sanitizing effectiveness of the system is impacted by changes in temperature, bather load, sunlight and rainfall. Changes in any of these factors may require additional “shocking” of the water to prevent an algae outbreak.

Few things provide more pleasure than diving into a crystal clear pool after a long, hot day. However pools can be a big source of frustration and expense if they are not taken care of properly. Cloudy water and algae are sure signs that your pool needs a maintenance review.

As a pool owner you have a responsibility to those using your pool that it is clean and safe to swim in. Pool care shouldn’t be difficult or time consuming. With regular maintenance and advice from a professional, you’ll have a pristine aquatic playground in no time.

In a nutshell, periodically check your pool’s chemical balance to ensure it is comfortable and safe to swim in. Controlling bacteria and algae and removing any debris from the water will help keep it safe and clear. Regularly filtering water reduces debris and makes sure the chemicals are in circulation.

Several factors affect the condition of your pool water - in particular the weather and the amount of use. Hot sunny weather can turn your pool green overnight if the water chemical balance is not correct. If your pool is heated then extra care must be taken to keep the chemical balance correct.

Discuss - Have Fun!! Be sure and supervise your children carefully and to keep the chemicals out of reach. Also remember that pool covers are meant to keep debris out of the pool and are not meant as a safety device to keep children safe.

Pools naturally attract debris such as leaves, flowers, insects and dust as well as hair and skin. All these cause the water to cloud and encourage bacteria and algae growth. If bacteria and algae are left untreated it will multiply, your pool becoming unhealthy and unsightly. The only way we can control these elements is to sanitize and filtrate daily- especially during the warmer months.

Professionals can advise on the right chemical balance for your type and size of pool and staff at most pool shops are knowledgeable sources who’ll happily test a sample of your pool water free of charge. There are many mobile pool companies who will put your pool on a maintenance plan.

Discuss - Every other day test the pool water. Use test strips or a DPD kit and measure free chlorine, pH and total alkalinity.

Keeping your pool clean and sparkling ensures you have a water playground ready at all times.

The Uses and Benefits of Enzyme Based Swimming Pool Chemicals

Discuss - Alkaline powder. Although chlorine in your pool will kill off germs, it will also raise the level of acid in your water.

A highly effective new line of enzyme based swimming pool chemicals has recently been introduced to the pool industry. These all-natural swimming pool products break down harmful organics present in swimming pool water using enzymes, instead of harsh chemicals traditionally used for this purpose. These helpful pool enzymes have no affect on swimmers, and are completely safe to store and handle. When used with reduced levels of chlorine (or bromine), these pool enzyme products are an important part of a very effective low chlorine pool maintenance routine.

The real purpose of a pool sanitizer (chlorine or bromine) is to kill harmful bacteria, however the sanitizer will naturally also work to break down any organic contamination in swimming pool water. The sanitizer is used up in the process of fighting organics, and a higher concentration of the sanitizer is require to ensure that any bacteria is also quickly neutralized. When pool enzymes are added on a regular basis, these enzymes eat up and break down all organic material in the pool water. If safe and natural enzymes are used to eliminate all organics in the water, less chlorine is needed to effectively kill bacteria. This saves money on swimming pool chemicals, and the reduced level of harsh sanitizer is much easier on the skin, hair and eyes of swimmers.

Discuss - Make sure the swimming pool cover conforms to state and local law requirements. Some areas require that a certain size and depth of pool be covered when not in use.

Enzymes are also an excellent pool stain remover, if staining is caused by something organic such as leaves sitting on the floor of a pool over the winter. Unsightly staining may also form at the water line of swimming pools, and is caused by the oils left in the pool water by swimmers. Oils float on the surface of the pool water, and combine with dirt or minerals to accumulate on the pool surface and form the stain. Enzymes added on a regular basis will eat away at the oils, to eventually remove the ugly water line stain and prevent the stain from returning.
