Choosing and Installing a Replacement Above Ground Pool Liner

Discuss - Metallic parts in your pool will dissolve (walls, floor, handrails, ladders, light fixtures, and equipment). This could even lead to discolored water and stains on the pool walls and floor.

Above ground swimming pool liners are made of a thin vinyl material, and are designed to hold water in your above ground pool. The water inside an above ground pool pushes out against the pool walls and actually holds the walls up. If all of the water is drained from the pool liner, the thin steel pool walls will collapse inwards and be damaged. Swimming pool liners are a functional part of the above ground pool, but also add style and character. Above ground pool liners are available in an amazing selection of attractive patterns and styles, and often set the décor for the entire swimming pool area.

Replacement swimming pool liners for above ground swimming pools can be found in several grades, or thicknesses. The thickness of vinyl pool liner material indicates how durable the pool liner is, and how long it might last inside a swimming pool. The thicker the pool liner material is, the more durable it will be. The measure of pool liner thickness is presented in either “gauge” or “mil”, both meaning the same thing. The pool liner included with most new above ground swimming pools is plain blue color, and a 20-gauge thickness. Replacement swimming pool liners can be found in thicknesses up to 30-gauge.

Discuss - Make sure the swimming pool cover comes with enough parts to securely anchor the cover without worry of slippage. Most larger swimming pool covers come with a strap or anchor for every four feet of cover.

Above ground swimming pools are built to accommodate either an overlap style liner, or a beaded style liner. The difference between a “beaded” style liner, and an “overlap” style liner is the way the liner is held in place inside the swimming pool. Beaded above ground pool liners have a very small groove or lip at the top edge of the liner. This small lip is snapped into a track all the way around the inside of the swimming pool at the very top of the pool wall, to hold the pool liner in place. If your swimming pool requires a beaded pool liner, you will be able to see this track by looking under the top rail on the inside of the above ground swimming pool.

An overlap style pool liner is folded over the wall of the swimming pool, and held in place underneath the top rail of the above ground swimming pool. If your swimming pool requires an overlap style liner, you can see a small amount of the pool liner under the top rail on the outside of the swimming pool. To install an overlap pool liner the top rail of the above ground pool is removed all the way around the pool. The new liner is placed in the pool, and draped over the top of the thin metal wall of the pool. Long plastic clips are placed over the liner and the thin metal wall to hold the liner in place, and the top rails are re-installed over the new liner. Most of the excess liner hanging down on the outside of the pool can be trimmed off.

Discuss - If possible find a broker with experience in home improvement loans and swimming pool financing. A bank equity loan is not the same as a this type of loan and will almost certainly cost you more.

How To Choose The Best Swimming Pool Filter

Discuss - Alkaline powder. Although chlorine in your pool will kill off germs, it will also raise the level of acid in your water.

A lot of folks seem to be confused about which filter will work best for their swimming pool. There is no one simple answer for that question, but the more you understand about swimming pool filters the better decision you can make.

There are three main types of swimming pool filters and they are sand, cartridge, or diatomaceous earth. Actually, any of the three will do a fine job of filtering your pool, but there are advantages and disadvantages for each of them. Let’s see what they are.

Sand filters — these are very simple filters that use a layer of sand that the swimming pool water is pumped through to clean and filter out impurities from the water. The dirty water goes in one side and it comes out clean on the other side of the filter. Eventually, the filter gets plugged though and will have to be backwashed to remove the debris. Often this has to be done every couple of weeks or so.

ZEN POOL … Awaken the Master Within Top Professional Pool Player and Instructor Max Eberle shares with you many of the hard earned pool/billiards knowledge known only by the champions.

Cartridge filters — these are perhaps the easiest to understand and use. They work much the same way that an oil filter does for your car’s engine. The dirty water goes into the filter, passes through the filter material, deposits the debris on the material, and then exits back to the pool. Some cartridges must have their filter material replaced every few weeks or so, and others can be cleaned only once or twice a season and then reused.

Diatomaceous earth — this filter is considered the best water polisher of the three filters mentioned. The tiny diatoms can filter out debris as small as 5 microns from your water, making it an excellent cleaner. Similar to the sand filter, the diatomaceous earth filter must be backwashed every so often when the pressure rises in the filter. The old diatomaceous earth is washed away, and the new earth is applied by you to the filter through the pool skimmer.

Discuss - Metallic parts in your pool will dissolve (walls, floor, handrails, ladders, light fixtures, and equipment). This could even lead to discolored water and stains on the pool walls and floor.

So what is the best swimming pool filter for you? Well that all the depends on several factors. What is most important to you? If you want low maintenance of a pool filter, then the cartridge filter is what you should go for. If you want an absolutely reliable, long-lasting filter, then the sand filter may be your best choice. If on the other hand, having the cleanest water possible is a high priority for you, then the diatomaceous earth filter just simply can’t be beat. And keep in mind that you can add diatomaceous earth to both the sand filter and a cartridge filter to improve their water cleaning capabilities without causing any problems in the process too.

Hopefully, this article has helped you understand a little bit more about the different kinds of swimming pool filters that are available, how they work, and what you can expect from each one. By examining the features listed above you should be able to decide which swimming pool filter will work best for you.

Discuss - Don’t clean your pool! A dirty pool is an expensive pool (expensive for you, profitable for your local pool business). The more you let your pool go, the more it will cost to get things back together again.
